Context
In this chapter we lay out some options and practical tools for the creation of a common database of strategic information. The tools we use are designed to enable people to build a shared bank of information that deepens participants understanding of the issues and informs the decision making process.
The simplest way of sharing information is by giving people the facts through presentations. This tends to develop an audience frame of mind and creates a passive response. This is especially true when there is a lot of information to share and when some of the people in the room already have some or all of it.
In this chapter we present a number of ways to develop a shared picture of the context. Some of these are designed to enable a diverse group of people to build a shared picture whilst others provide creative frameworks to provide a variety of presentations. The idea is not to tell people what they already know. The processes presented here focus on inviting people to share what they know with the aim of drawing out a common rich picture of the shared context.
